Final Comments

The debates over this issue have been many. There is truly much animosity among brethren, to the point that they ceased fellowship with God and each other.

This debate was offered on this site for informational purposes only. Every child of God is responsible to examine the scriptures for themselves and see what God requires or allows in the area of benevolence and church finances.

I wish that my opponent (Darrell) would have kept the name calling and sophistry out of the debate. It was going pretty good in the first debate until the third round. Had he done so, this debate would have been worth the effort put into it.

I am almost embarassed by the demeanor that is written on these pages, but the more important issue is that the positions from both sides has been presented. Each Christian needs to view them from the viewpoint of the Scriptures, and determine for themselves what God desires from us. That is why I decided to go ahead and include this debate on my website.

Some folks have suggested ways in which the many different local churches of Christ could be reconciled. But there is such bitterness and hatred among the groups, that it seems unlikely. Each side accusing the other of evil in one form or another. Therein lies the shame.

We should be battling the forces of evil upon this world, and we have to debate issues among ourselves. Some would charge that it is evil to do so. I say that we should always let the truth be formost in our teaching and practice. If we can't practice the truth, why bring souls into a polluted environment to begin with?

Whether you choose to learn from this debate or simply choose to ignore it is up to you.

May God bless us all in our efforts to seek His righteousness and His kingdom and His truth.

Carey Scott
