The Doctrines Of Men
While there may be many who may say the Bible is the word of God that has no error,
most people have a problem with something written in the word so they do not follow
it. In fact, many doctrines being taught to millions of people today are not from
the Bible, but from men. Jesus condemned those who would teach strange doctrines,
and Jesus spoke against those who would accept any doctrine other than God's truths.
Jesus calls it an empty religion that is based upon man's teaching. In Matthew
15:7-9, Jesus tells the religious leaders of His day the following;" You
hypocrites, rightly did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying, This people honors Me
with their lips, but their heart is far away from Me. But in vain do they worship
Me, teaching as doctrines the precepts of men." In Mark 7:8 we read: "Neglecting
the commandment of God, you hold to the tradition of men."
The apostle Paul said that the person who teaches another doctrine should be accursed:
Galatians 1:8 we read: "But even though we, or an angel from heaven, should
preaching to you a gospel contrary to that which we have preached to you, let
him be accursed." Paul also taught that people should hold on to sound doctrine;
1 Timothy 4:6 reads: "In pointing out these things to the brethren, you will
be a good servant of Christ Jesus, constantly nourished on the words of the faith
and of the sound doctrine which you have been following." People who jump
around with various religions are following every wind of doctrine which they
are supposed to avoid: Ephesians 4:14 reads: "As a result, we are no longer
to be children, tossed here and there by waves, and carried about by every wind
of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming:".
Although many people believe the Bible to be truth, they still do not respect
the word enough to study it as they should: 2 Timothy 2:15 reads; "Be diligent
to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed,
handling accurately the word of truth."
Anytime we discuss bible subjects or religious subjects we should always let the
Bible be the final word on the matter. There is a popular saying around:"God
said it, I believe it, that settles it." But even then a more appropriate
statement would be thus: "God said it, and that settles it". We may
not agree with God's judgments and doctrines, but we had better stick to them
if we want to be saved. We must seek the Bible teaching that can save our souls:
James 1:21-22 reads: "Therefore putting aside all filthiness and all that
remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to
save your souls. But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers
who delude themselves." The doctrines of men may help us feel good about
ourselves, but they will not produce salvation. The vain worship will not produce
salvation either. We all need to learn to not corrupt that which God specifies
in His word of truth, the Bible. Let us plant His word in our hearts so that we
might not sin against Him (Psalm 119:11).
You must believe that Jesus is the Son of God and died on the cross for our sins.
(Acts 8:37). You must repent of your sins (Luke 13:3) you must confess Jesus as
Lord (Matthew 10:32) and you must be baptized for the remission of your sins (Acts
2:38; 22:16). Then you must remain faithful and continue learning (2 Peter 3:18).
