Too Late

Paul Harvey told this story about a woman who acted too late;

There was this woman who got into trouble and had to go to court. The judge asked here if she had a lawyer. The response was "I don't need a lawyer". It cost her. But she got into a little deeper trouble. Into court again. The judge asked her if she wanted a lawyer. She gave the same answer. Time went on and she got into really serious trouble. This time she called up her lawyer and said, "I need you now!". The lawyer responded, "I've been available to help you all along and you refused. I cannot be your lawyer now, because, you see, I have been appointed as your judge." And so ended the story.

Spiritual application:

A man grew up and sinned. This man was advised that there was a remedy for the sin. The man refused. The man got deeper into sin. Again, he was advised that there was one who could help him and that one was Jesus Christ. The man again refused. The man again went and sinned - this time his sin nearly cost him his life. It laid him up in the hospital and the doctor later told him that he (the doctor) had done all that he could do, and that the man would soon die. This really scared the man and he prayer to Jesus Christ, "Jesus, I need you. I'm about to die and I am afraid to die. Can't you help me?" Jesus answered, "Son, I've been here all along and could help you, but you refused help. I'm sorry! I cannot help you now, because, you see, I have been appointed your Judge!".

"Seek the LORD while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the LORD, and He will have mercy on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon." Isa 55:6-7
