Why We Must Defend
Our Faith
If we are not going to defend it, it is not our faith. Faith is the substance
of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1.
If we cannot believe that our faith is right, we will not endure the ridicule
or bitterness that will occur when we defend our faith. Our faith is under attack
from Satan, and all who are captured in his snares. Satan's angels disguise
themselves as angels of light in order to deceive people to believe things that
are not the truth. When people are deceived, they are lost, and precisely where
Satan wants them. For the sake of souls of many, we must declare the truth of
God's word and defend our faith. Jude wrote that we should "contend earnestly
for the faith" Jude 3.
Whenever we speak the truth, there are going to be people who oppose it. The
truth of God's word is found in the Bible, and there are many people who have
discounted the Bible to be nothing more than myths and love letters to people
of long ago. Well, they have not read that the word of God abides forever and
will outlast all humanity. This is so, because the Bible will be present on
judgment day, and we will all be judged by the things written in the books (Revelation
20:12).
There are numerous passages in the Bible that tells us we will all stand before
the judgment seat of God and Christ. The result for our soul's eternal destiny
is determined by how we live our lives and the condition of our lives when it
reaches its end. If we have a relationship with Christ at the end, we will be
allowed entrance into heaven along with all the other faithful souls of all
time. Those who do not have a good relationship with Christ will be cast into
the outer darkness and shunned away from the presence of the Lord because the
Lord does not know them, or has their name written down in the books as those
who reject and revile God.
True Christians are under attack, and the worst thing we can do is to reject
or deny our faith. Do not think it is impossible, for Peter swore that he would
never deny the Christ, and did so three times just a few hours later.
Our faith is under attack from Satan. It is under attack by the people of the
world who are not spiritually minded. It is under attack from the denominations
that have rejected Christ and/or His teachings, but still teach they are going
to heaven. It is under attack when our own preachers and teachers deny the faith
and teach things that are not found in God's word, and/or refuse to teach things
found in God's word.
We have to know that these attacks against our faith are not against us personally,
but in actuality, are in opposition to Christ Himself.
Let us hold fast the faithful word and stand steadfast and immovable in support
of the word of God. We must put on the armor of God and stand ready for battle
against the forces of evil in whatever form they present themselves.
