Question: I feel so cold in my relationship with our Lord. I have been a Christian for many years. How do I get back to my first love? I never thought I would find myself in this situation. I dont even want to go to church anymore. And I used to anticipate this.

Answer: There are many things that you can do to reverse your downward spiral. But you have to desire the reversal in the first place. Without that desire, there is no hope.

I would suggest that you openly and honestly examine yourself (2 Cor 13:5). Perhaps you could make a list of what you like about your religious life and another list on what you do not like. Then sit down with your Bible and see if any gripe or complaint has merit and see if any good thing has scriptural authority.

Enter this whole thing with prayer. Ask for wisdom (James 1:5) to be honest on these matters. Dedicate yourself to the proposition that maybe something is wrong and I know it, but am not willing to deal with it. This could be a reason for your not wanting to go to church. You must determine for yourself where the fault lies.

1. My brethren are faithful and their worship is scriptural.
2. My brethren are faithful, but their worship is not scriptural.
3. I am faithful and full of zeal
4. I am not faithful.

If you consider your brethren out of harmony with God or His word, then you have an obligation to approach them and express your concerns. If you are the one out of harmony with God and His word, you should welcome the encouragement from your brethren, as I feel pretty sure that they would be glad to offer it. Read Rom 8:18-30 and see if it makes any sense to you. Keep studying God's word. Carey Scott www.AskMe.com 7/23/2000
