Confession Unto Salvation
Romans 10:9-10

Our Starting Text

“That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.” ~ Romans 10:9-10

Confession Defined:

Greek word: “homologeo” literally, to speak the same thing.

W.E. Vine: To declare openly by way of speaking out freely, such confession being the effect of deep conviction of facts. To confess by way of celebrating with praise

Confession is a Way of Life -- Not Single Act

“For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.” ~ Mark 8:38

“Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for the tree is known by its fruit. You brood of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak what is good? For the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart.” ~ Matthew 12:33-34

Confession is A Pledge of Allegiance

“Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father; the one who confesses the Son has the Father also.” ~ 1 John 2:23

“Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.” ~ 1 John 4:15

“For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ” ~ Philippians 3:20

Confession is Commitment with a Risk

“His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jews; for the Jews had already agreed that if anyone confessed Him to be Christ, he was to be put out of the synagogue.” ~ John 9:22

“Nevertheless many even of the rulers believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees they were not confessing Him, for fear that they would be put out of the synagogue; for they loved the approval of men rather than the approval of God.” ~ John 12:42,43

“He who overcomes will thus be clothed in white garments; and I will not erase his name from the book of life, and I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels.” ~ Revelation 3:5

“And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even when faced with death.” ~ Revelation 12:11

When I Confess Christ… God is praised and glorified.

“So that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” ~ Philippians 2:10,11

“For it is written, "As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall give praise to God.” ~ Romans 14:11

When I Confess Christ… My determination is renewed.

“For He Himself has said, ‘I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you,’ so that we confidently say, ‘The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid. What will man do to me?’ Remember those who led you, who spoke the word of God to you; and considering the result of their conduct, imitate their faith.” ~ Romans 14:11

“Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.” ~ Hebrews 4:14

“I will also speak of Your testimonies before kings And shall not be ashamed.” ~ Psalms 119:46

When I Confess Christ… My brethren are built up.

“For the ministry of this service is not only fully supplying the needs of the saints, but is also overflowing through many thanksgivings to God. Because of the proof given by this ministry, they will glorify God for your obedience to your confession of the gospel of Christ and for the liberality of your contribution to them and to all” ~ 2 Corinthians 9:12,13

“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds” ~ Hebrews 10:23,24

“...my circumstances have turned out for the greater progress of the gospel, so that my imprisonment in the cause of Christ has become well known throughout the whole praetorian guard and to everyone else, and that most of the brethren, trusting in the Lord because of my imprisonment, have far more courage to speak the word of God without fear” ~ Philippians 1:12-14

When I Confess Christ… Unbelievers take notice.

“For I say that Christ has become a servant to the circumcision on behalf of the truth of God to confirm the promises given to the fathers, and for the Gentiles to glorify God for His mercy; as it is written, "Therefore I will give praise to you among the Gentiles, and I will sing to your name.Again he says, ‘Rejoice, O Gentiles, with his people." And again, "Praise the Lord all you Gentiles, and let all the peoples praise him.” ~ Romans 15:8-11
