LongSuffering

The Fruit Of The Spirit
• Galatians 5:22 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, [23] meekness, temperance: against such there is no law”.

• In our case, the intended results of what God wants His people to be.
• In other words, the desired results of the effort of the Holy Spirit.

• THE SPIRIT

• The third person of the Godhead.
• The one charged to reveal God to mankind.

• However the Greek word for Patience is different (hupomone).

• LONGSUFFERING
• Note from W.E. Vines.
• Longsuffering is that quality of self restraint in the face of provocation which does not hastily retaliate or promptly punish; it is the opposite of anger, and is associated with mercy, and is used of God.
• Patience is the quality that does not surrender to circumstances or succumb under trial; it is the opposite of despondency and is associated with hope, it is not used of God.
• Let us see the word in the Bible.

• LONGSUFFERING
• Exodus 34:6-7 And the LORD passed by before him (Moses on the mountain receiving the Law), and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.

• LONGSUFFERING

• LONGSUFFERING
• Just how longsuffering was God in the Old Testament?
• Well, He put up with the provocation, insults, rejection, obstinacy, and stubbornness of the people even while they worshipped other gods and crafted their idols.
• From the exodus from Egypt to the destruction of Jerusalem by the Chaldeans—oh, about 800 years.
• Do we have that kind of patience? I doubt it.

• LONGSUFFERING
• Romans 2:3-6 And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God? Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance? But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God; Who will render to every man according to his deeds:

• LONGSUFFERING
• Romans 9: 21-23 Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour? What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction: And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory,

• LONGSUFFERING
