Romans 8:1

Introduction:

A. Occasionally, we need to be reminded as to why we should be Christians.

B. Romans 8:1 declares one of the many reasons why we should be Christians.

C. Let’s examine three important truths gleaned from Romans 8:1.

I. THERE IS NO CONDEMNATION

A. Paul just concluded chapter seven by saying, “O wretched man that I am. Who will deliver me from this body of death?”

B. The contrast between the old law and the new law is made.

1. Under the old law, there was condemnation and death.

2. Under the new law, there is no condemnation and we have life.

C. Stop and think what it means to stand condemned before God.

1. 2nd Thessalonians 1:7-9

2. Hebrews 10:26-31

3. Romans 2:1-5

II. NO CONDEMNATION IN CHRIST

A. Romans 6:3

B. Galatians 3:26-27

C. Scriptural baptism is no more important than any other act of obedience to God. It just happens to be the final act whereby God declares one pardoned.

D. Hearing (John 5:24), Believing (John 8:24), Repentance (Luke 13:3), Confession (Matthew 10:32), are all acts that leads us to salvation, but Baptism (Mark 16:16) is spoken of in terms of placing us into the sphere of salvation.

E. It is our goal to get people to want to surrender to the gospel of Jesus Christ

III. NO CONDEMNATION IN CHRIST IF WE WALK AFTER THE SPIRIT

A. Continued obedience is necessary (James 1:21; John 14:15; 1st John 1:7).

B. We will sin from time to time; it may be in word or deed, but for those who do their best to keep from sinning and when we do sin and repent, there is no condemnation in Christ.

C. May we never stop fighting sin; for if we do, we will surrender to it.

Conclusion:

A. How great it would be if we could all leave here assured that we are not condemned before God.

B. There is no reason why this cannot take place.

C. Would you surrender your life to Christ and enjoy your new standing before God?
