The Parable Of The Soils
• A.K.A.The Parable Of The Sower

• Introduction
• Parables were stories of things which people were familiar to teach things which they could not yet understand.
• We are to learn from these parables.
• This particular parable is different in the fact that it is one that gives us the explanation from Jesus Himself.
• However there are still other principles that can be learned from it.

• Matthew 13:3-9
• And He spoke many things to them in parables, saying, “Behold, the sower went out to sow; and as he sowed, some seeds fell beside the road, and the birds came and ate them up. And others fell upon the rocky places, where they did not have much soil; and immediately they sprang up, because they had not depth of soil.
• Matthew 13:3-9
• But when the sun had risen they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. And others fell among the thorns, and the thorns came up and choked them out. And others fell on the good soil, and yielded a crop, some a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty. He who has ears, let him hear.

• The Explanation
• We are going to let Jesus give His explanation first.
• Then we will make some further applications.

• The Explanation
Matthew 13:19
• “When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is the one on whom seed was sown beside the road.

• The Explanation
Matthew 13:20-21
• And the one on whom seed was sown on the rocky places, this is the man who hears the word, and immediately receives it with joy; yet he has no firm root in himself, but is only temporary, and when affliction or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he falls away”.

• The Explanation
Matthew 13:22
• And the one on whom seed was sown among the thorns, this is the man who hears the word, and the worry of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful”.

• The Explanation
Matthew 13:23
• “And the one on whom seed was sown on the good soil, this is the man who hears the word and understands it; who indeed bears fruit, and brings forth, some a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty”.

• Lessons To Learn
• The seed sown is the word of God.
• We notice that the sower does not pick and choose where to sow the seed.
• His job is to sow (plant) the seed.
• It will be up to God for the production of any bounty or profit.
• We should be doing our best to sow the word of God in others.
• As long as we do that, we should leave the rest to God.

• Lessons To Learn
• The seed sown is the word of God.
• The word is not allowed to enter the heart because there are many hard hearts.
• Satan has done his best to keep people from needing the salvation offered by God.
• These people do not want to hear the truth concerning salvation.
• They do not care.

• Lessons To Learn
• The seed sown is the word of God.
• Many entertain the thought of doing right in the sight of God, but it is only temporary.
• Perhaps when they hit rock bottom, a sense of emotion overcomes them and they feel they need God in their lives.
• As soon as things get back to normal, they return to their old ways, and do not feel they need God any longer.

• Lessons To Learn
• The seed sown is the word of God.
• Many are going to serve God as long as He does not get in their way.
• The things of this earth are so precious to them; they are not willing to give them up.
• As a result, they are torn between serving God and serving themselves.
• Usually serving themselves takes precedence.
• The thorny soil represents those who have not totally given up the world to serve our Lord.
• Whether it is money, fame, popularity, or physical things should not matter if we are trying to serve God.
• Many find it convenient to claim to be believers and followers of God as long as His ways do not interfere with theirs.
• These people’s hearts are not in the right place.

• Lessons To Learn
• The seed sown is the word of God.
• When sown in good ground, it will take root and grow into a mature Christian.
• A mature Christian will sow more seed from the word of God, and when sown, will grow, and produce many more Christians, which will sow more seed from the word of God, and when sown ...etc.
• 2 Timothy 2:2 “And the things which have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, these entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also”.

• Lessons To Learn
• The most pressing thing we need to know about this parable is the identity of the sower.
• Who does this represent?
• Unlike the other parables which identified many different individuals including God and Jesus;
• The sower is……..
• Let each and every one of us say “I Am the Sower”!

• Conclusion
• What are you doing with the seed that God has given to you?
• Are you using it?
• Are you sowing it?
• Remember, our job is to sow the seed.
• It will be up to God to produce the results.
• Do not let our fears keep us from sowing the most important thing in this world.
• As we sing, “Are you sowing the seed of the kingdom, brother?”
