The Psalmist begins by saying, “I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever.” Then he explains why by noting some of the promises that the Lord had made to David.
Read TEXT (both NKJV and NIV). In this verse, Jehovah invites David to call upon him as Father, God, Rock, and Savior.
The terms used in this passage help us better to understand TITLE.

I. He is our Father
A. God is our father physically by creation, but He becomes a spiritual father to those who come to Him: Matt. 6:9, 32; 7:7-11
B. “Father” implies children—how and when do we become God’s spiritual children?: Jn. 3:3-5, Gal. 3:26-27
C. Once we become His children, He wants us to obey Him: 1 Pet. 1:13-16, 1 Jn. 3:1-3

II. He is our God
A. “God” means deity, a divine being; in the Bible, the Creator: Gen. 1:1, 26-27
B. Beings have names—what is God’s name?: Exo. 3:4, 6, 13-16; 6:2-3
C. What is God like?: Ps. 19:1; Jn. 1:1, 14, 18; 1 Tim. 3:16

III. He is our Rock
A. A rock is a symbol of strength, power, steadfastness which provides protection and refuge from enemies: Ps. 18:1-3, 42:1
B. In the desert, a large rock often provides a place of shelter from the burning sun and wind: Isa. 32:1-2
C. Who is our rock?: 1 Cor. 10:1-4, 1 Pet. 2:4-5

IV. He is our Savior
A. This implies that there’s something from which we need to be saved: Isa. 59:1-2 (Rom. 3:23)
B. It also implies that this thing from which we need to be saved puts us in some kind of danger: Ezek. 18:4 (Rom. 6:23)
C. So this is why we need a Savior: 1 Tim. 2:3-4, 1 Jn. 4:14

Conclusion: Can you truly call upon the Lord as your spiritual Father?
Do you openly acknowledge Him as the God who rules your life?
Is He the Rock from whom you always seek refuge and shelter in time of need?
Have you received the salvation that He offers us through Jesus Christ?
